How the city is laid out
- The older sectors (1 to 18, with 12A), between the hills and the Ghaggar river, are the established part of town. Sector 5 is the centre, with offices, showrooms, Shalimar Mall, the Town Park and the Cactus Garden.
- Across the Ghaggar (Sectors 20 to 28 and 31) are newer sectors and many group housing societies, with Nada Sahib and the IT Park in Sector 22.
- Mansa Devi Complex is a planned area around the Mansa Devi temple, north of the older sectors.
- Pinjore, Kalka and the Morni Hills are part of Panchkula district too.

Who runs what
- HSVP developed the sectors and handles plots, transfers and building plans.
- The Municipal Corporation handles property tax, sanitation, parks and, within sectors, water and sewerage that are moving over from HSVP.
- PMDA builds city-level roads and bulk water supply.
- UHBVN supplies electricity.
- Haryana Police (the Panchkula Police Commissionerate) handles policing.
Our “I need to…” handbook walks through each service step by step.
Your Family ID
Many Haryana services and schemes need a Family ID (Parivar Pehchan Patra). Get one early: see how to get a Family ID.
Getting around
Panchkula has its own bus stand, local and tricity buses, autos and app cabs. Chandigarh’s railway station is close to the older sectors, and Chandimandir, Pinjore and Kalka have stations on the Kalka line. See getting around Panchkula.
Good to know
- The Ghaggar is a dry riverbed most of the year but can flood fast in the monsoon. Never cross a flooded causeway.
- Vehicles registered in Chandigarh or Punjab count as “other state” vehicles in Haryana.
- Summers are hot; winters are cold with morning fog. The hills cool things down a little on summer evenings.
